Our Skip Bin Sizes

Whether you're doing some spring cleaning and need to get rid of some old household items, or you're renovating your home and need somewhere to put all the debris, we have a skip that will be perfect for you.
When it comes to choosing a skip bin, size matters. If you choose a bin that's too small, you'll end up needing another one. But if you choose a bin that's too large, you'll end up paying for space you don't need. So how do you choose the right size of skip bin? The first step is to assess the amount of waste you have. Are you undertaking a major home renovation? Or are you just decluttering your garage? Once you have a rough estimate of the amount of waste, you can start to narrow down your options.

The next step is to consider the type of waste. If you're dealing with heavy materials like concrete or bricks, you'll need a larger bin. But if you're dealing with light materials, a smaller bin will suffice. If you need more assistance with choosing the right size of skip bin, Junkyard Skips is here to help. We have a range of bins to suit any type and amount of waste. Contact us today for a free quote on our skip bin sizes.

Choosing a Skip Bin

Construction Waste

Our large skip bins are perfect for construction or demolition waste, sizes 6m³ to 10m³.

Green Waste

We offer 3m³ to 4m³ skips for an average yard cleanup- equal to 4 standard trailers.

General Waste

For general rubbish we suggest
a 2m³ or 4m³ skip bin, depending on the amount of rubbish.

Office Waste

Depending on the size of the office you may require anything from mini skip (2m³) to a large (10m³).

How much rubbish will fit in a skip bin of each size?

The amount of rubbish that fits in a skip bin depends on the size you choose and the type of waste. Here’s a general guide to help you estimate:

  • 2 cubic metre skip bin: This mini skip is perfect for small jobs like yard cleanups or bathroom renovations. It holds roughly the equivalent of 8 wheelie bins.
  • 3 cubic metre skip bin: Ideal for small renovations in kitchens, bedrooms or the office. Holds approximately 10 wheelie bins of rubbish.
  • 4 cubic metre skip bin: Great for larger renovations, clearouts or moving house from an apartment. Fits roughly 12 wheelie bins of waste.
  • 6 cubic metre skip bin: Our most popular size, suitable for house moves, significant renovations or landscaping projects. Holds the equivalent of around 24 wheelie bins.
  • Larger skip bins: We offer bigger skips up to 10 cubic metres for substantial renovation or demolition projects.

Tip: Not sure which size to choose? Contact Junkyard Skips and our friendly team can advise you on the best bin for your needs.

How Long Can I Hire The Bin For?

Our standard skip bin hire period is 7 days. However, we can be flexible depending on your project needs. Just let us know when you book your skip bin, and we’ll be happy to discuss longer rental periods.

Does Your Pricing Cover All Tipping Fees?

Yes, our upfront pricing covers skip bin delivery, pick up and all tipping fees at approved waste facilities. There are no hidden charges.

What If I’m Not Done With The Skip Bin By Pick-Up Day?

No worries! We understand that projects can sometimes take longer than expected. Just call Junkyard Skips before your scheduled pick-up day, and we can arrange an extension at a competitive daily rate.

Do I Have To Take The Skip To The Tip Myself?

Absolutely not! That’s what we’re here for. Junkyard Skips will deliver the skip bin to your location and pick it up once it’s full, taking care of all the disposal responsibly.

How Much Notice Do I Need To Give?

We recommend booking your skip bin as early as possible to secure your preferred date and size. However, we often can accommodate last-minute bookings depending on availability. Feel free to contact Junkyard Skips to check!

What Can’t I Put In The Bin?

There are some restrictions on what waste materials can go in our skip bins. This is to comply with safety regulations and environmental protection. Here’s a list of prohibited items:

  • Asbestos
  • Flammable liquids (paint thinners, petrol etc.)
  • Gas bottles
  • Chemical waste
  • Food waste
  • Tyres
  • Mattresses

Do You Offer Asbestos Bins?

Due to the special handling requirements, Junkyard Skips does not offer asbestos removal or disposal. However, we can recommend licensed asbestos removal companies in your area.

Do You Need A Council Permit?

In most cases, you won’t need a council permit to place a skip bin on your private property. However, a permit might be required if you plan to put the skip bin on public property (like a nature strip). We recommend checking with your local council for regulations in your area.

How High Can I Fill A Skip Bin?

You can only fill a skip bin level with the rim. It’s important not to overload the bin as it can be too heavy for safe transportation and at risk of tipping during collection.

If you have a lot of bulky items that won’t fit comfortably within the rim of the bin, consider these options:

  • Break down bulky items: If possible, break down large boxes, furniture or tree branches to create more space in the bin.
  • Order a larger skip bin: Junkyard Skips offers a range of skip bin sizes. Choose a bin that will comfortably accommodate the volume of waste you have.

Tip: When filling your skip bin, try to play Tetris! Interlayer heavy items with lighter materials and fill any gaps to maximise the space you have available.

Can I Have A Skip Bin On My Driveway/Nature Strip?

Placing a skip bin on your driveway is generally the preferred option, while nature strips typically require a permit. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Driveway: This is the most convenient and often doesn’t require a permit. Since it’s on your private property, you have more control over placement.
  • Nature Strip: Placing a skip bin on the nature strip (the grassy area between the road and your property) usually requires a permit from the council. There might be fees involved, and processing times can vary.
